Castle of Monemvasia

  It is time for you to stroll through the scenic paths, wander around the walls, gaze into the Myrtoan Sea and
become a part of the history of this castletown, a history that began during the 6th century A.D. when the
Laconias built their fort here in order to protect themselves from invaders.
The castle of Monemvasia is located in a unique location and was one of the most important stops for
trading and merchants, that connected the East and the West.The town was conquered ,inhabited and
reconstructed by different people throughout the years including the Franks, the Venetians and the Turks
therefore experienced a lot of changes throughout the Byzantine years.
In this enchanted settlement, each inhabitant left their own mark, their stories and legends.You can follow
the path up to the upper town and enjoy a visit at the restored church of Aghia Sophia, which was dedicated
to the wisdom of God, such as Aghia Sophia in Instabul and gaze at the endless horizon of the Myrtoan Sea.

Monemvasia Archeological Collection (visiting hours:8:30-16:00 ticket price:2€)
The entrance to the castle is free.
The town stores are open from 9am until late at night.
