Petrified Palm Forest of Agios Nikolaos
           A one of a kind petrified forest located near to the village of Agios Nikolaos near to Agia Marina, which is one of the very few in Europe. Its is located near the ocean in a landscape filled with natural beauty. Here lie palm tree trunks that date back to 3 million years. According to scientists, during that time the climate here used to be subtropical and there was a large palm tree forest located here. When the ocean level rose and the water covered the trees the last got petrified. from here you can also find the path for the monastery of Agia Irene and the path that leads you to the beautifull village of Velanidia.
